Today, I read a Google Plus post by Northeastern Exterminating, a pest control company based in Brooklyn, NY. The Molluso Family made mention of a particular bed bug product that seems to show up at every bed bug inspection they perform.
Unfortunately, I see the same product just as frequently.
No ….. Really. I see that same store bought product at every bed bug inspection I go to.
It’s odd. Many of us good guys in the industry take every precaution to ensure we don’t rip people off. We want to make sure we bring value. We feel obligated to provide a service worth the hard-earned money our customers spend with us.
We feel it’s important to protect the integrity of our beloved pest control industry.
What upsets professionals like us are these over-the-counter bed bug control products. They sell a “pie-in-the-sky” remedy. They are the modern version of snake oil.
Do These Products Kill Bed Bugs?

The real question is this:
Will the product get rid of my bed bugs?
Look at it like this:
Customers call me and other reputable companies AFTER using these products. I think that speaks volumes to the product’s effectiveness.
We Live In A DIY World
Look, bed bug treatments are very expensive; I can see why people would try to eradicate bed bugs on their own. I just hope people understand that these over-the-counter products will usually make the situation worse.
